Questions to ask a SAP
The SAP you choose shapes your whole return-to-duty process, and you generally can't switch once you've been evaluated. Ask these before you book.

Are you DOT-qualified and current on your training?
SAPs must meet Part 40 credential and continuing education requirements.
Do you meet in person, by video, or both?
Remote evaluations must be live audio and video, never phone only.
If by video, is your license valid where I live?
SAPs have to stay within the geographic limits of their credential.
What's the total cost, and what does it include?
Ask whether the initial and follow-up evaluations are priced separately.
About the process
How soon can you see me?
Availability varies a lot, especially in rural states.
How will you report to the Clearinghouse and my employer?
Know who gets your reports and when.
If you recommend treatment, can you refer me somewhere near me?
A good SAP helps you find a program you can actually attend.
